Finding My Light

by | Aug 13, 2014

I was honored to take pictures with the beautiful photographer, Juliya Sirotin from Honest Expressions Photography.

At first, I was very nervous and tense. I hadn’t taken pictures in a long time (side note: I used to model in college) and being back in front of the camera was unusual.

It brought up feelings of not being skinny enough, not being cute enough, not being tall enough…all the insecurities that women label ourselves with.

But within minutes, Juliya had calmed me, telling me jokes and being goofy. Lurking with her camera and waiting for the honest moment from within. “We have to find the right lighting,” she kept saying.

The more I relaxed, the more I realized what she was doing…she was waiting for me to express my truth.

She didn’t want me to pose, she just wanted me to be.

So often we put ourselves down, we tell ourselves we are just not good enough. Other times we put on masks so society doesn’t judge us harshly.

Without even knowing it, I was doing both of those things. Things I write about all the time, I preach to people not to do, and yet here I was guilty of both: insecurity and hiding.

We walked around and took pictures around a few locations. It was getting close to sunset. Slowly as we took more pictures, I felt my shoulders relax and my smile become more natural.

The guard was down and in these moments, Juliya captured the real me. The one I often keep wrapped up and hide from the world.

A few months ago, I began a new website called FOUND MY LIGHT. It is a place for everyone to gather inspiration, joy, and light. We are all lightworkers- we are all children of the light. Found My Light is a community for people the share the light and encourage others to become their most amazing selves.

As Juliya was taking pictures of me, she reminded me of my website and we started chatting about it.

Suki Eleuterio 5-20-14The sun was going down and she stopped to gaze at its beauty. I don’t know if she knew, but sunset is by far my favorite time of day. It’s like a spiritual time, where the birds stop chirping, the breeze picks up, and nature seems to surrender to the sun.

“Stand right there.” She instructed, as she started to take pictures of me in front of the sunset.

“I think we’ve found your light!” She exclaimed.

When I saw the pictures I was amazed. She had really captured who I was…the light inside me that radiates happiness, spirit, and love.

I found your article while researching DHEA (I believe I have adrenal hormone imbalance, partly due to modern life and ingesting unhealthy products and foods), and your words were so insightful that I had to Google you and found you here. Just want to say hello and say you are very beautiful, inside and out 🙂
