Breaking the Rules

by | Feb 1, 2013

I have a confession to make: I like to break rules.

If there is a barrier I like to test it.

I’m a little bit of an anarchist. And I secretly relish in stirring up a rebellion.

The truth is: some rules are stupid.

Don’t get me wrong, for the most part I am a well-kept, law-abiding citizen.

But every now and then, when I come across a rule that I think is totally unfair, unjust, or just plain dumb, I go out of my way to break it.

And rules are boring. Lines are boring.
Boundaries are boring.

To TRULY live we have to let go of rules and run free. Just once to see how it feels to be your own leader.

This week at work I have been reading over legal paperwork filled with terms and conditions and I had a revelation:

I’m not a term or a condition. I cannot be defined. I don’t like rules or check boxes. I live for being free and just being me. I like my opinions and I don’t bite my tongue. If I think something is wrong I’m going to say it.

So if you ask me, do I break the rules?

Hmmmm.

Maybe once or twice. But I never regretted a moment.

I agree! Don’t let life’s rules grind you down.

Thanks. It’s hard but we must break them every now and then!

Unfortunately I break a lot of rules while writing….not on purpose of course! 🙂

Breaking rules in writing is the best! It’s thinking with the right side of the brain and we need more of that.
