“I am now expanding into the FULLNESS of my being.” – Oprah Winfrey
I know you may have heard it before but hey, it’s time to SPEAK UP, we can’t hear you and your beautiful words and that just, well, sad. 😢 Let me tell you, speaking up and sharing can be really intimidating. Over the years I haven’t always been great at expressing myself. In fact sometimes I find myself stumbling over my words, half expressing, or keeping the really important things to myself. When I was young I was absolutely terrified of public speaking and it took me much longer than anyone else in my grade to learn to read.
Who would have thought all these years later I would be a speaker, author, and coach on…EXPRESSION AND BRANDING? Not me, I can tell you that with certainty.
When You Don’t Speak Up You Can Get Sick
But you see, I believe we go through the challenges we face in life in order to come out the other side and teach others. So it would make perfect sense that my biggest fear was really to speak, to share, and to express myself. I also had this limiting belief that only the “good” things should be shared and all the ugly stuff had to be kept within.
This is what I call “sitting” on your expression. When we don’t express ourselves, when we don’t write our books, sing our songs, step into our leadership roles, and generally hold ourselves back, it literally makes us sick. I know it made me sick as I spent many years struggling with endometriosis and PCOS. My hair was falling out, I gained a bunch of weight and I was miserable. It wasn’t until I discovered my soul-guided path that I learned how important expression is on our healing journey.
Nowadays I work with people through this expression. Here are a few tips I have discovered along the way to help you speak up, share, create and express yourself.
Create a Journal Practice
Writing is an amazing healer and a great way for you to speak up and share in a safe environment. I often ask my clients to begin a weekly journaling practice. Put the pen to the paper and write from your heart. You can even try automatic writing, which is a practice in which you just allow a stream of consciousness to flow out of your head.
Here’s a Tip: Pick a time in the morning when you have time to just brain dump. In this space allow yourself time to just express what is going on inside your mind and heart. ❤️ Remember that you can say whatever you need to say about anyone and anything. You are free to express yourself on paper!
Speak Up, Share the Whole Truth
Have you ever noticed that you might bite your tongue, literally? I used to spend time biting my tongue or pushing my words down. You can also do this by biting your lip, coughing, or biting your mouth. When we don’t share the whole truth, we can force some of the words down that want to be expressed. This can lead to all kinds of ailments like mouth ulcers, canker sores, cold sores, tooth decay, upper respiratory problems and more.
Here’s a Tip: Take time to gargle with salt water, this ancient practice has been around for centuries and is amazing to help you clear it all out. Then when you are sharing with people, try to push yourself to share just a little bit more. Even if it feels uncomfortable at first, it will feel much better in the long run as you learn how to fully express yourself and speak up!
Sing Your Song
Nothing works faster and more effectively to clear the throat chakra than singing a song. When I was younger I always loved singing a little tune (side note, some of my favorite movie musicals are Singin’ in the Rain and My Fair Lady). It wasn’t until I was older that I realized how healing music is. It truly does soothe the soul. Whether you hum a simple song or you belt out a tune in the shower, don’t forget to keep singing! It is only going to help you express yourself and clear out the low vibrations.
Here’s a Tip: There’s a difference between just singing and devotional singing. When you sing to the Universe, God, your Creator, there is a reverence. Energy moves quickly when you sing in this way. This is why I love mantras. My favorite mantra currently is Sarvesam – check out this version of the mantra on YouTube. Here is what the mantra means:
Sarveśām Svastir Bhavatu, Sarveśām Shāntir Bhavatu, Sarveśām Pūrnam Bhavatu, Sarveśām Maṇgalam Bhavatu
Meaning: May there be happiness in all. May there be peace in all. May there be completeness in all. May there be success in all
When I chant this mantra my heart opens up and I feel completely at ONE with the Divine. I realize the WE, how we are all one, how our thoughts and actions contribute to our inner and outer world. In this moment I wish happiness, peace, completeness, and success to all beings on this planet – animals, plants, and creatures included.
Release Feelings of Shame or Guilt
I have worked with so many clients over the years to clear through emotional blocks that sit in the throat chakra and two words come up so often: shame and guilt. If you have been feeling shameful about something or there is something that has been bothering you and you haven’t felt free to express it, it can show up like a knot in your throat.
Clearing out the throat can sometimes mean having some tough or honest conversations with people you love. But don’t be afraid! You are able to communicate with ease and grace. Don’t allow these old words to sit in your throat and make you sick. Now is the time to express gratitude. It takes courage but you CAN share something deep and personal that you have kept to yourself all this time. (Book a call with me and we can discuss exact rituals and tools I have to release shame and guilt).
I know you have so much to share with the world! I hope this little blog post has inspired you to speak up, share more, express yourself, and say what you need to say.
Blessings and love,
